Lead the cross-functional strategic development and execution of Breakthrough Energy’s 2024-2025 communications strategy, guiding a multi-channel content approach across internal teams and external agencies to elevate the brand’s voice with clean tech leaders, policymakers, and global partners.
The Challenge
Breakthrough Energy, an entity founded via Gates Ventures, needed a unifying, future-forward communications strategy to align its diverse workstreams and better connect with key stakeholders—from policymakers to the climate tech ecosystem.
With a lean in-house team and high visibility across sectors, they required expert leadership to guide strategy, manage execution, and ensure quality across communications efforts.
The Solution
Mission & Purpose Communications was brought on by Novel Messaging and Breakthrough Energy to lead and manage a team of Novel’s communications subcontractors executing this work.
As the client-facing strategist, we coordinated across multiple workstreams, teams, and agencies, and ensured Breakthrough’s bold ambitions translated into clear, actionable communications.
- Managed a team of five subcontractors spanning content strategy, digital media, graphic design, and messaging from April 2024-January 2025
- Served as one of the primary strategic leads for Novel Messaging and Breakthrough Energy communications leadership
- Worked across teams to develop, plan, and execute the 2024-2025 content and communications strategy, aligning storytelling, policy relevance, thought leadership, and climate equity goals
- Oversaw editorial planning, content creation, and platform strategy across key verticals
- Ensured all deliverables were brand-aligned, compelling, and strategically timed
